Monza: two Toro Rossos in the points!
The good form of the two Toro Rossos shown
in Spa-Francorchamps was not reflected during
free practice and qualifying for the Italian Grand
Prix. Sébastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari
could not make better than 16th and 18th
respectively on the grid at Monza. But in racing
configuration the good and consistent
performances of the Red Bull sister team drivers
turned the situation around resulting in two point
finish places.
Buemi who finished 10th was lucky to continue after being involved in a collision when, immediately after the start, he clipped another car with his left rear tyre. “I am a bit disappointed with the way the race panned out when an HRT triggered a big accident. I took a knock at the back of my car and it was definitely damaged in some way,” said the Swiss. Having made a good start, Buemi was sixteenth when the race restarted but confidently worked his way to join Alguersuari, who had made another great start, in the point placing.
In the absence of Petrov’s Renault and Rosberg’s Mercedes, both damaged at the start, an intense contest for points involving Force India, Renault, Sauber and William was finally won by Alguersuari, finishing 7th behind the Ferrari of Massa. Buemi was 8th at his highest position but was passed by Paul di Resta (Force India). After resisting Bruno Senna’s attacks for several laps, but seemingly less competitive with the harder tyre component, Buemi couldn’t hold his position and had to accept the final point.
It was a good race at home for Sébastian Buemi’s team who have narrowed the gap to both Force India and Sauber in the Constructors Championship.
